Dionisia Pacquiao’s ‘dirty finger’ becomes Internet sensation

Oops, she did it again.

While Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao was busy hammering American boxer Timothy Bradley during their April 13 rematch (Saturday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada), someone else caught the attention of local and international journalists alike – his mother Dionisia Pacquiao.

Sometime during the third round of her son’s bout, the flamboyant 64-year-old was seen on television moving wildly from her ringside seat. She wore a white Filipiniana dress for the fight.

She appeared to be shouting words against her son’s opponent while clutching a rosary and a prayer booklet. At what point, she also seemed to show a dirty finger (although that may be unintentional).

Facebook user Mond Villafria uploaded a 16-second clip of the elder Pacquiao’s antics:

Some observers joked that Mrs. Pacquiao may have cast a “voodoo hex” against her son’s rival.

Manny Pacquiao ended the night on a victorious note, snatching the WBO welterweight title from Bradley via a convincing unanimous decision – 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112.

Curiously, the mother of the returning champion approached Bradley shortly after ring announcer Michael Buffer declared the judges’ decision. What she told her son’s vanquished opponent remains not known.

But clearly, his mom made her presence felt, with the venerable American newspaper USA Today dubbing her the “star of the night.” Also, new Internet memes featuring this image has become viral.

Rain or Shine walks out during Game 6

The entire Rain or Shine Elasto Painters briefly walked out its finals game against the San Mig Coffee Mixers Wednesday night.  The walkout happened with still 11:39 left in second quarter and with SMC ahead, 31 – 17.

ROS Coach Yeng Guiao said they made the move in protest of what he described as biased officiating by the referees. According to GMA News, Guiao was particularly irked by a foul called on JR Quinahan when he attempted to block a shot by Mixers forward Marc Pingris.

The Elasto Painters was given 15 minutes to return to action, otherwise they’ll forfeit the game. Guiao and his players eventually returned. The team eventually received a warning for delaying the game,  a decision that can be regarded as too light.

UPDATE: SMC leads ROS at halftime, 49 to 43.

Mayweather ridicules Pacquiao on Facebook, Twitter

The holiday season apparently hasn’t stopped undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. from throwing punches against his archrival, slugger Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines. Mayweather uploaded a ‘Christmas card to the world’ on his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Check the original upload here. The meme is a composite of four images. The first two pictures refer to Mayweather’s offer to Pacquiao to fight him for $40 million and the latter’s decision to turn it down.

Floyd Mayweather mocks Manny Pacquiao through a ‘greeting card’ he uploaded on Facebook and Twitter

The last two images imply that Pacquiao’s December 2012 loss via knockout to Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez blurred any possibility of a bout against Mayweather. The post has been shared almost 25,000 times on Facebook and around 20,000 on Twitter. Mayweather uploaded the photos about 2AM, Manila time.

American journalists have been critical of Mayweather’s move. Mike Singer of CBS Sports described the meme as a “low blow” while Nick Schwartz of USA Today newspaper called the uploaded pictures as “mean.” Andy Nesbitt of Fox Sports meanwhile reiterated that the world is still waiting for a Pacquiao – Mayweather fight to finally come true.

Mayweather’s latest antics came weeks after sport legend Mike Tyson described Pacquiao as the ‘most sensational’ boxer in an interview with ESPN’s Sports Nation.

Justin Bieber makes fun of Manny Pacquiao

Canadian teenage singer Justin Bieber posted two photos in his Instagram page ridiculing Manny Pacquiao. This came a day after the Filipino boxing icon lost to his Mexican archrival Juan Manuel Marquez via knock out in the sixth round of their fourth fight.

The first one is a photoshopped image of Disney character Simba (from the movie “Lion King”) trying to wake up an unconscious Pacquiao. “Dad wake up,” Bieber said in the caption. Check the original image in this link.

In the second picture, the same image of a fallen Pacquiao has been placed side by side with that of Michael Jackson doing his signature anti-gravity lean dance move. “Pacquiao doing the lean with MJ .. Classic moment,” the caption goes. See the original upload here.

These photos were taken from Bieber’s Instagram page

The morning after the fight, Bieber posted a photo of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s knockdown of Marquez during their twelve-round bout last September 2009. Mayweather won the match via unanimous decision.  Bieber wrote: “Look what Mayweather did to Marquez.. #moneyteam #nocompetition.” Bieber is indirectly stating that someone who lost to the guy who lost to Mayweather has no chance of winning over the “Pretty Boy.”

PS: The hashtag #moneyteam is in reference to Cash Money Records, the record label that manages Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and 50 Cent – all close friends of Mayweather. Bieber, Lil wayne, and 50 Cent were all present during Mayweather’s fight against Miguel Cotto last May.

NOTICE: This post has received already received 25,000 hits as of this hour. I understand your negative views toward Justin Bieber, but please refrain from posting uncivilized statements. I am exercising my right to screen out such comments.
