PNA uses logo of Dole Foods for a story about Department of Labor and Employment
The government-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) is under fire once again after it used the logo of Dole Food Company in an article about the holiday pay rules implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE. The author of the article is Joseph Paligutan.
The PNA has since taken down the wrong image and issued an erratum, but not after earning scorn from netizens who pointed out that this is the second time in three days that the agency has committed an easily-avoidable mistake.
It can be recalled that just last Wednesday, the PNA also received flak for reposting in its entirety an editorial article from Xinhua News Agency which described as “an ill-founded award” the win of the Philippines over China in its arbitration case last year.
In response to that embarassment, Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office vowed that they will investigate how the mistake happened. “We will take appropriate action against liable PNA officials and/or staff, if they are found to commit negligence in carrying out their duties and responsibilities,” he said. PNA is one of the units and agencies under PCOO.
COMMENTARY: The latest PNA mistake is super laughable, really. It’s as if Mr. Paligutan didn’t even bother to check the attached image first before publishing it. Plus, it was also apparently overlooked by his editor/s.
It’s mind-boggling that it happened because most, if not all, online content management systems like WordPress allow users to preview their post before publication.
