KADAYAWAN 2017 – August 18 declared a holiday in Davao City
Davao City, the so-called Durian capital of the Philippines, will be celebrating the 32nd annual Kadayawan Festival this August 18. The day has been declared a holiday through President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 273 (read the full text here).
Duterte served as mayor of Davao City for seven non-consecutive terms: from 1988 to 1998, from 2001 to 2010, and from 2013 until his election to the Presidency last 2016.
Since August 18 falls on a Friday, most Davaoeños will get to enjoy a rare four-day weekend because August 21 is also a holiday in observance of the Ninoy Aquino Day.
Davao City’s Kadayawan Festival is undoubtedly one of the most popular festivals nationwide, together with the likes of Baguio City’s Panagbenga Festival, Bacolod City’s Masskara Festival, and Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival.
