#TRASLACION2017 – Procession route and schedule of activities

As much as 15 million Catholic Filipinos are expected to flock to the City of Manila this January 9, Sunday, to take part in the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene which is housed in the famous Quiapo Church, otherwise known as the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene). The theme for this year’s celebration is “Pagibig ang Bukod na Ganap na Pagkakaisa.”

The flurry of activities related to the festival have already began last December 31. This week, the Nazarene will be visiting various barangays in the vicinity of Quiapo. On January 7, Saturday, thousands of devotees are scheduled to participate in the procession of Black Nazarene replicas. By early morning of January 8,  the icon of the Black Nazarene will be transported from Quiapo Church to Quirino Grandstand.

During that time, devotees will be allowed to fall in line and kiss the statue of the Black Nazarene (referred to in Filipino as “pahalik“).  By night time, several priests will take turns in addressing the crowd during the vigil, which is scheduled to last until the midnight.
