NO 2ND MEDAL FOR PH | Pinay taekwondo jin Elaine Alora loses to Mexican veteran

Pinay taekwondo jin Kirstie Elaine Alora lost to veteran fighter and 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist Maria Espinoza of Mexico in their round-of-16 match for women’s 67 kg. Saturday night (Manila time), 4 to 1. Alora is the last to see action among the thirteen Filipinos competing in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Alora’s early defeat deprived the country of the chance to win a second medal in the current edition of the quadrennial sporting event following Hidilyn Diaz’ silver medal-finish for weightlifting (53 kg. categogy) last August 9.

In a Facebook post, the World Taekwondo Federation noted that Espinoza “fought with her customary pace and force, giving plenty of play to her fiery arsenal of round kick, spinning back kick, and overhand punch.”

However, the report pointed out that Espinoza may have a harder time in the succeeding rounds given that she’ll be up against much taller and leggier fighters. “The demands on Espinoza’s footwork and tactical preparation are going to be massive,” WTF added.
