#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for August 1 2016 due to typhoon ‘Carina’

Tropical storm “Carina” (international name “Nida”) remains a threat to extreme northern Luzon even as it moves out of the Philippine area of responsibility on its way to Hong Kong and southern China.
In its 5:00 AM update for August 1, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the eye of tropical storm “Nida” is at 145 km North Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (19.5°N, 120.0°E). The cyclone now carries maximum sustained winds of up to 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is moving northwest at 20 kph and is projected to be 635 km west of Itbayat, Batanes by Tuesday morning.
The weather bureau also raised the following public storm warning signals:
SIGNAL #2 (61-120 kph winds expected in 24 hours)
Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, and Northern part of Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands
SIGNAL #1 (30-60 kph Expected in 36 hours)
Ilocos Sur, Batanes Group of Islands, Rest of Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Benguet, Ifugao, La Union, and Pangasinan
Because of that, classes in certain provinces and municipalities are suspended for today, August 1. This post will be updated as soon as new information becomes available.

REMINDER TO EVERYONE:
As stipulated in former President Benigno Aquino III’s Executive Order 66, classes up to high school are suspended in areas under signal #2. Meanwhile, classes in preschool and kindergarten are suspended for areas under signal #1.
Lastly, local government leaders particularly the governors and mayors have the power to suspend classes in their respective constituencies if necessary. It is likely that classes will be suspended in more areas once the 11:00 PM bulletin has been released.
