Wanna retain your lost Sun Cellular number? Not possible.
Early this month, I continued my annual tradition of losing a mobile phone. Last December 4, my 18-month old Gionee phone slipped out of my pocket during the tricycle ride back home. That means I’ve now lost five dating back to March 2012, namely a Samsung phone, two Cherry mobiles, and a Nokia. To be honest, I’ve made it a point never to buy expensive phones as a penalty for my carelessness.
I’m using two SIM cards on that Gionee phone – Globe and Sun. Thanks to the Globe Business Center in UP Ayala Technohub (where else will I go? LOL), I was able to reuse my Globe number the day after I lost the phone. Before anything else, I’d like to point out that the process was a bit more difficult this time:
- I was asked to have a duly-notarized affidavit of loss (I had to pay P60).
- They asked me to provide a number that I called or texted on the day the phone was lost.
- I still had to pay P40 for the SIM replacement
- There’s no more waiting time for the SIM to be activated
A few days later, I called Sun Cellular‘s customer service hotline 395-8000 to ask if I can retrieve my previous number. I tried my luck with them because Globe Telecoms has long offered that service. Although I don’t use my Sun number as much as my Globe number, I deemed it practical to have it too because it makes it easier to contact people using Smart.
Anyway, I was told by their agent that it is currently not possible for prepaid subscribers. End of story. If that means postpaid subscribers can retrieve their lost number, I am not sure because I did not ask. :3

I’m a prepaid subscriber of SUN Cellular. Unfortunately, 2 days before I lost my mobile phone because it slipped out of my pocket during the tricycle ride going to school. My question is, what is now the update about this? Is it possible now to reuse my old number? Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks.
