Teresa Yap, mother of ‘Pastillas Girl,’ shot dead in Caloocan City

Teresa Yap, whose daughter Angelica gained fame as “Pastillas Girl” in the ABS-CBN noontime program “Showtime,” was shot to death by a still-unidentified gunman in Caloocan City late Sunday night. She sustained a gunshot wound at the back of her head.

According to a report by ABS-CBNNews.com’s Kevin Manalo, Yap was walking toward a roadside eatery with one of her daughters and a niece in Tagaytay Street in Caloocan when a man suddenly approached her from behind and shot her at close range.

The entire incident was captured by a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera installed in the area. Based on the recording, the gunman fled the scene as soon as Yap fell to the ground. Her companions as well as bystanders rushed to her aid but it was too late.

They were able to bring Yap to a hospital but she was eventually declared dead by 9:20 PM. Speaking to ABS-CBN News, a relative named Tumping Fabian revealed that the victim has been receiving death threats via text message, with some saying that she will be killed before Christmas.

The report neither indicated the context of these threats nor possible motives for the killing. The crime is already under investigation by the police.
