February 3 2015 declared a holiday in Bulacan – Blas Ople Day
Bulakenyos will have a special non-working day next week as the nation marks the 89th birth anniversary of the late elder statesman Blas Ople.
Blas Ople Day is celebrated in Bulacan every February 3, which this year falls on a Tuesday. President Benigno Aquino III made the announcement through Proclamation 948. Read the full text of Proclamation 948 in this link.
Just like last year, Aquino praised Ople for dedicating “decades of his life to selfless, dedicated, and sincere service to our country and our people.” He also called Ople a “role model to the Filipino people.”
February 3 is one of the legal holidays in the province according to Bulacan’s 2007 Administrative Code (page 6).
Prior to his death in December 2003, Ople served as a foreign affairs secretary under then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Ople for many years was a labor minister during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos. He became Senate President from 1999 to 2000.
This particular special non-working holiday comes just 11 days after Bulacan marked the 116th anniversary of the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
