August 15 2014 Bulacan foundation day holiday
Bulacan will be celebrating its annual foundation day holiday this coming August 15, 2014.
August 15 is a special non-working holiday throughout the said Central Luzon province as stipulated in Proclamation 823, which the Office of the President released last July 10. Access the full text of Proclamation 823 in this link.
This year’s “Araw ng Bulacan” holiday will create a three-day weekend for Bulakenos since August 15 falls on a Friday.
Interestingly, such a proclamation appears to be not at all necessary since the Chapter II of the 2007 Administrative Code of Bulacan already declared August 15 of each year as the province’s foundation day. Read the said administrative code here.
Citing a research done by the Center for Bulacan Studies, The Philippine Star in 2011 reported that Bulacan was established as a province on August 15, 1878.
PS: If you plan to work on this particular day, take note of the fact that you are entitled to plus 30% of your regular hourly rate.
That is mandated by the Department of Labor and Employment’s Handbook on Workers’ Statutory Monetary Benefits (2010 edition).
