Did GMA News publish “Overflowing STD virus from Kris Aquino causes a stink at NAIA-1”?
A news item from GMA News Online supposedly titled “Overflowing STD virus from Kris Aquino causes a stink at NAIA-1” left lots of Facebook users amused when it went viral Monday night.
Netizens took screenshots of the post, most of them wondering if GMANews.tv was hacked or if an erring intern committed the blunder.
The screenshot below was taken by Freeman columnist Mike Acebedo Lopez, a former panelist in Boy Abunda’s “Bottom Line.”
The pace at which the story went viral prompted GMA News to publish a brief disclaimer/clarification. In the post, the network emphasized that it “has never posted a story with the headline on the STD virus” and that their website was not hacked.
They further explained that the Kris Aquino headline could be a prank done by Facebook users who shared the original link. GMA News pointed out Facebook’s little-known feature which allows its users to edit the title of articles they share.
GMA News noted that despite the title alteration, clicking on the fake headline would still redirect users to the original article titled “Overflowing septic tank causes a stink at NAIA-1.”
