DTI releases price list for school supplies
With just two weeks left before the start of school year 2014-2015 in most schools, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has released its list of suggested retail prices (SRP) for basic school supplies. The department published the price list through its website, adding that the SRP for school supplies applies nationwide.
Composition notebook (80 leaves) – P10.00 to 14.75
Writing notebook (80 leaves) – P10.00 to 14.75
Spiral notebook (80 leaves) – P10.00 to 14.75
Pad paper for Grades 1 to 4 (80 leaves) – P6.00 to 12.00 (*some may offer two to three pads per pack)
Intermediate pad paper (80 leaves) – P11.50 to 22.50
Crayons – P11.25 to 51.75 (*depends on the number of sticks per pack)
Pencil (regular size) – P12.25 to 23.50 (*per packs of three)
Pencil (jumbo size) – P24.75 to 30.75 (*per packs of three)
Ballpen – P.475 to 33.00 (depending on type and brand)
The trade department advised consumers to consider the following in buying certain school supplies:
Notebooks – number of pages, type of paper, brand name, address of manufacturer and/or importer, country where it was made
Pad papers – number of pages, type of paper, brand name, address of manufacturer and/or importer, country where it was made
Crayons – brand name and trademark, number of crayon sticks, name and address of manufacturer/importer, the label “non-toxic” (this signifies that the product met the standards set by the Food and Drgus Administration about allowed toxicity levels)
Pencils – brand name and trademark, hardness symbol (1, 2, or 3), country where it was made
Ballpens – brand name and trademark, tip classification (fine, medium, etc.), name and address of manufacturer
The DTI also urged Filipinos to forward whatever queries or complaints they may have through 751-3330 or 0917-8343330.
