SEE HERE: Deniece Cornejo’s mugshots
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released the mugshots of controversial freelance model Deniece Cornejo late Monday night. Cornejo surrendered personally to PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima earlier that day, citing concerns about her and her family’s safety.
According to Purisima, Cornejo be under the supervision of PNP’s Women and Children Protection Center. “She will be treated like any other detainee,” Purisima told GMA News, adding that there won’t be any special treatment for her.
Cornejo’s surrender came a day after her grandfather Rod Cornejo sent a statement to the media urging his apo to come forward to the authorities. “I believe Deniece is telling the truth. Because of this I believe she should immediately submit herself to the authorities and trust the judicial system to determine the truth once and for all,” the elder Cornejo said.
A court in Taguig City issued an arrest warrant against Cornejo last April 14 in connection to the grave coercion case that actor-comedian Vhong Navarro filed early this year.
Another court in Taguig City subsequently issued an arrest warrant against Cornejo, businessman Cedric Lee, and seven others for serious illegal detention.
Serious illegal detention is a non-bailable crime as stipulated in the Revised Penal Code. It carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
