Charice Pempengco: I’m lesbian

Opo, tomboy po ako,” Pempengco says, adding that former Pinoy X Factor contestant Alyssa Quijano is special to her

International singing sensation Charice Pempengco has confirmed that she is a lesbian. She made the disclosure in a recorded interview with talk show host Boy Abunda during today’s episode of The Buzz. Her announcement ends persistent rumors about her sexuality which began early last year when she embraced an “edgy” hairstyle.

Opo, tomboy po ako,” Pempengco said in response to Abunda’s direct question. She also apologized to her mother Raquel and brother Karl, revealing that her frequent conflicts with her mom prompted her to move out of their house. “Sorry, mommy. Eto po talaga ako,” she said. Check out the full transcript of the interview through the EnterVRexWorld blog site.

Early last month, her mother Raquel publicly said that she is allowing her daughter to reveal her sexual identity.  “Bilang ina ay hayaan ko siyang ilantad kung ano ang tunay na katauhan niya. Kung ano ang gusto niya, dahil doon siya magiging maligaya,” she told ABS-CBN News.

Pempengco also revealed that she has a special relationship with Alyssa Quijano, former contestant of X Factor Philippines, where the singer served as a judge. “She’s an inspiration. Isa po siya sa pinagkukunan ko po ng lakas ngayon,” she said. She explained that Quijano and her had known each other since they were just nine years old.

The singer’s penchant for trying out “manly” hair styles frequently trigger lesbian rumors online. A picture of her taken during a performance in a campaign trail earned Pempengco unfavorable comparisons to Korean rapper Psy and Senator Bongbong Marcos.

  1. chadrice is just undergoing a normal part of growing up. At her age many yound people experience this same sex admiration but eventually pass through the stage. I know, be cause I’ve been through this. Kaso, pag pinayaagan mo mag take roots, akala mo talaga, iyon na. Sana she found professional help. Malaking factor na rin ang faith mo kasi kung you believe na hindi tama, you’ll turn from it. It’s a choice really, influenced by one’s faith and values and what one sees around.
True, one can make a decision but if you believe that you are God’s creation, you should heed His words and know that there is only a man and a woman to start with.

    1. Liana, I don’t normally respond to readers’ comments, but I have to on this one. Homosexuality is not wrong. It’s not a mental disorder. If your religion sees it as an aberration, so be it. But you cannot impose it on others. When a person wants to be true to himself/herself, you can’t take it against her.

  2. Third sex is still not fully accepted in the Philippines due to the country’s deep Catholic culture. And even if she did not confirm it, people see her dating another woman. Why not admit it in the open anyway?

    1. You’ve got to be kidding. Yes, that has got to be it! People’s hearts all of a sudden get influenced to love someone of the same sex! That’s just how love works, right?

  5. It was meant as a joke, sex and the number of people, there so they must be having sex but Marimar said sex was not accepted. haha Marimar

  6. People are born that way, they don’t suddenly choose to be gay. A lot of the times, they will purposefully put on a different image, but are still gay, because they are afraid of what people like you think. And they shouldn’t be.
