May 27 2013 holiday in Camarines Sur and Naga City

The province of Camarines Sur will be having its annual Kaogma Festival this May 27 2013. The event marks the foundation anniversary of the province. May 27 is a special non-working holiday in Camarines Sur, including the cities of Iriga and Naga, by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 9410. The law was signed by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2007. Read the full text of RA 9410 here.

Citing historical records obtained from Spain, the official website of Camarines Sur says the province was first established in May 27, 1579 though a decree by Governor General Francisco Sande. In 1829, the Camarines territory was divided into two only to be reunited by 1854. The division became final in 1917 via Philippine Legislative Act No. 2711.

According to Wikipedia, the Kaogma Festival, also referred to as “Kaogma Mardi Gras: the World’s Hottest Festival,” features a wide array of festivities usually held in the Provincial Capitol Complex in Pili. This year, May 27 falls on a Monday which gives the people of Camarines Sur a three-day weekend.
