Class suspensions – December 5 2012

According to the latest typhoon bulletin issued (11PM) by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the eye of typhoon Pablo (international code name: Bopha) was located 145 km southwest of Iloilo City, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph and gustiness of 170 kph. Pablo is moving northwest at 24 kph. The weather advisory issued at 11pm tonight will be the basis of class and work suspensions tomorrow.

The Office of the President released early this year Executive Order 66 which outlined the rules in suspending classes. They are as follows:

Signal # 1 – classes at the pre-school level shall be automatically cancelled or suspended in affected areas

Signal #2 – classes at the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels, in the affected area, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended,

Signal #3 – classes at pre-school, elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including graduate school, as well as work in all government offices, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended.

Meanwhile, section 2 of EO 66 says that local chief executives can also suspend classes in their respective areas even if a storm warning signal has not been raised.
