ARAW NG DABAW – March 1 2024 declared a holiday in Davao City

Davao City will be celebrating its 87th foundation anniversary this coming March 1, Friday. The day is a special non-working holiday throughout the city according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 467.

This holiday will give most of those working and studying in Davao City a three-day weekend because this year’s “Araw ng Dabaw” falls on a Friday this year.

Pay Rules for the Araw ng Dabaw 2024 – March 1, 2024

According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Davao City’s foundation anniversary.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Davao City on March 1 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
