#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for 2 September 2023 due to monsoon rains

With huge parts of the country still experiencing southwest monsoon rains intensified by typhoon “Hanna” (international name: Haikui), various local government units around the country are likely to announce class suspensions in their respective areas for 2 September 2023 (Saturday).
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA’s 11:00 PM report, “Hanna” was last spotted at 600 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (21.9°N, 127.5°E).
It carries maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 150 KPH, and central pressure of 975 hPa. It is moving westward at 15 KPH. It has strong to storm-force winds that extend outwards up to 340 km from the center. No storm warning signal has been raised anywhere in the country.
“Hanna” is projected to stay in the Philippine area of responsibility until Sunday, which means that it will continue strengthening the southwest monsoon rains for the next three days.

REMINDER TO COLLEGE STUDENTS:
As stipulated in Commission on Higher Education’s Memorandum Order #15 series of 2012, “students who are unable to report to class or participate in scheduled activities such as exams due to inclement weather shall be given consideration and be allowed to make up for the missed class or activity.”
This must be the case especially during instances where the local government executive did not announce suspension of classes despite heavy rains in the area.
