#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for 31 August 2023 due to #GoringPH

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA has reported that super typhoon “Goring” (international name: “Saola”) has moved out of the Philippine area of responsibility, though southwest monsoon rains will continue to be experienced in many parts of the country for the next three days.

According to the 11:00 PM bulletin of PAGASA, “Goring” was last spotted at 265 km west of Itbayat, Batanes (20.8°N, 119.3°E). It carries maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 240 KPH, and central pressure of 920 hPa. It is moving west northwestward at 10 KPH. It has strong to storm-force winds that extend outwards up to 340 km from the center.

As of Wednesday evening, the following local government units have announced class suspensions in their respective areas for 31 August 2023, Thursday. The Filipino Scribe will be updating this post if and when necessary.

According to Department of Education order #37 series of 2022 signed by Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, both in-person and online classes as well as work in schools situated in local government units where a storm warning signal has been raised.

Meanwhile, local government executives have the discretion to suspend classes in their respective areas if they deem it necessary.
