National History Month theme 2023: “Pagpapalaya ng Kasaysayan para sa Sambayanan”
Starting this August 1, the Philippines will be commemorating the annual National History Month or “Buwan ng Kasaysayan.”
According to the official Facebook page of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines or NHCP, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Pagpapalaya ng Kasaysayan para sa Sambayanan” (“Democratizing History for the People”).
The NHCP added that the historical events that would be commemorated this August 2023 include the National Heroes Day on the last Monday of the month, the 125th Anniversary of the Bacoor Assembly, the 125th Anniversary of Protestant Christianity, the Cry of Pugadlawin, the Battle of San Juan del Monte, as well as the birth and death anniversaries of certain heroes and presidents.
Interested parties are invited to regularly check the agency’s official social media platforms for the official logo and posters as well as the line-up of activities.
August has been designated as National History Month through the late former President Benigno Aquino III’s Proclamation 339, which was signed in 2012. Prior to 2012, there was only a History Week, which ran from September 15 to 21 as stipulated in former President Ferdinand Marcos’ Proclamation 1304, signed in 1974.
