#WalangPasok – July 2 2023 declared holiday in Pasig City
Pasig City will be celebrating its 450th foundation anniversary this 2 July 2023, Sunday.
The day has been declared a special non-working holiday by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. through Proclamation 271. The full text of this proclamation can be accessed here.
According to the Pasig City Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office, the city was founded by the Augustinians in 2 July 1573. They also established the Pasig Cathedral on the same day. There were claims that this is the first Marian parish in the country and perhaps even in the entire Asia.
Now regarded as one of the country’s premiere commercial center because of the Ortigas business district, Pasig achieved cityhood in 1994 through Republic Act 7829.
PAY RULES FOR ARAW NG PASIG 2023
According to the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle will be in effect for the Araw ng Pasig special non-working holiday.
This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work on July 2, 2023 in Pasig City are not entitled to any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that provides for that.
Meanwhile, the handbook mentions that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
