#WalangPasok – June 15 2023 declared holiday in Pampanga and Angeles City
The country will be commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the eruption of Mount Pinatubo this 15 June 2023, Thursday. President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared the said day as a special non-working holiday in Angeles City and in the province of Pampanga through Proclamation 224 and 234, respectively.
According to the United States Geological Survey of USGS, Mount Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 is “the second-largest volcanic eruption of this century, and by far the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area.” It further added: “The eruption produced high-speed avalanches of hot ash and gas, giant mudflows, and a cloud of volcanic ash hundreds of miles across. The impacts of the eruption continue to this day.”
PAY RULES FOR JUNE 15, 2023 SPECIAL NON-WORKING HOLIDAY IN PAMPANGA
As mentioned in the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays.
This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in the province of Pampanga and in Angeles City on June 15 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.
The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
