National Women’s Month 2022: “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran”
Just like the rest of the world, the Philippines will be celebrating the International Women’s Month this March 2022. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) is the lead government agency for this event in the country.
While the PCW will still use the recurring six-year theme “We Make Change For Women,” this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) in the Philippines will focus on the sub-theme “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran.”
According to PCW, the aim of this sub-theme is to urge the government and private sector to do the following:
1) Assess the gains already achieved towards GEWE and prevent sliding back as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and other national issues;
2) Inspire actions to promote a gender-responsive pandemic recovery; and
3) Draw attention to the priority gender issues that must be addressed by future public servants, as outlined in the recently-updated gender equality and women’s empowerment or GEWE Plan, which spans until the year 2025.
“This year’s sub-theme focuses on including women’s concerns in the government agenda and enabling more women to implement and at the same time, demand programs and services that can bring the country closer to narrowing the gender gaps and moving towards sustainable and equitable development,” the PCW said in a statement.
The agency further elucidated that this year’s NWMC is envisioned to be “a celebration of women exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes.”
The PCW has lined up various activities related to the NWMC including the “Pulso para sa Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran Online Poll,” the International Women’s Day Celebration set for March 8, the “#JuanaSays: Agenda ni Juana Edition,” the Musika ng Kababaihan Fridays (#MNKFridays), and the release of the NWMC Viber Sticker Pack.
Meanwhile, the PCW reminded everyone that all activities that will be done in connection with the celebration of the women’s month should not in anyway be colored by partisan politics. It added that all participants still need to adhere to existing minimum health protocols because of the pandemic.
