#WalangPasok – November 30 2021 declared national holiday for Bonifacio Day
The Philippines will be marking the 158th birth anniversary of Spanish-era revolutionary leader and national hero Andres Bonifacio this November 30, Tuesday.
The day, commonly referred to as Bonifacio Day, is a national holiday as stipulated in President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 986, which he signed August of last year. This is the last holiday before the three-week slog leading to Christmas.
It has been exactly 100 years since the Philippines began celebrating Bonifacio Day as a national holiday courtesy of Act No. 2946, which was passed by the Philippine Legislature in 1921.
According to the 2020 DOLE handbook on workers statutory monetary benefits, employees are entitled to receive 100% of their regular wage rate even if
they did not report for work on the said day, provided that they are present or is on leave of absence with pay on the work day immediately preceding the holiday.
This means that those who will not report for work on November 29 will not be paid for the November 30 holiday unless they are on official leave. Meanwhile, those who will be working on November 30 will get twice or 200% of their regular daily wage – also known as “double pay.”
