#WalangPasok – May 13 2021 declared a holiday for Eid’l Fitr
Muslims around the globe will be observing the end of the holy month of Ramadan, referred to as Eid’l Fitr, during the second week of May. The said religious observance is an annual national holiday in the Philippines by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 9177, which was enacted in 2002 during the term of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
In line with that, President Rodrigo Duterte has declared May 13, Thursday, as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr. This is after the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos or NCMF recommended the said date.
It can be recalled that the NCMF previously declared the start of Ramadan last April 13. The NCMF has likewise uploaded on its website a 30-day prayer and fasting schedule for Muslims living in different parts of the Philippines.
Elsewhere in the world like in India and the United Arab Emirates, May 13 is also seen as a possible date for this year’s Eid’l Fitr.
