#WalangPasok – Is December 8 2017 a holiday?

The House of Representatives recently approved on third and final reading House Bill 4661 by Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas seeking to have December 8 of every year declared as a special non-working holiday throughout the Philippines to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

As in other proposed measures, this will only become the law of the land if and when the Senate passes a counterpart legislation for President Rodrigo Duterte’s affirmative action.

Even without such a law, administrators of Catholic schools around the country, most notably the University of Santo Tomas, typically declare December 8 as a no-class and no-work day for their respective institutions.
