#WalangPasok – Class suspension in Pampanga for September 8 2017

The province of Pampanga will celebrate the 61st anniversary of the canonical coronation of Virgen De los Remedios, the patroness of Pampanga, this September 8.

Acting Governor Dennis G. Pineda has ordered the suspension of work in all government offices as well as classes in all levels for that day. Pineda made the announcement through Executive Order No. 17-2107. This will effectively give most Kapampangans a three-day weekend because September 8 falls on a Friday.

“Skeletal forces shall be assigned in front line and key offices and hospitals to ensure the continuous delivery of services to the people,” Pineda also said in his order.

Classes in all levels are suspended in Pampanga in September 8 2017 to give way for the 61st anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of Virgen De los Remedios, the Patroness of Pampanga.

Known locally as  Indu Ning Capaldanan, the Virgen de los Remedios de la Pampanga has an interesting history. During the 1950s, then-Pampanga Archbishop Cesar Maria Guerrero cultivated among the Kapampangan faithful the need for Marian devotion. During that time, the province was experiencing political and social unrest due to the Communist insurgency.

In February 1956, Archbishop Guerrero wrote to Pope Pius XII to ask him to grant canonical coronation to the Virgen De los Remedios, a request that His Holiness granted through a Papal Bull released July 15 1956.  The Virgen De los Remedios feast day of September 8 coincides with the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

Keep in mind though that Angeles City is not included in this announcement because of its status as a highly-urbanized city, which means it is autonomous from the provincial government of Pampanga.
