Local government across the country have announced class suspensions for their respective localities for October 29, Tuesday, to prepare for the possible effects of severe tropical storm “Leon” (international name: Kong-rey) and due to the aftermath of “Kristine.”

As of 11:00 PM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that “Leon” was last spotted 705 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela (16.8°N, 128.3°E).

“Leon” carries maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 125 KPH, and central pressure of 980 hPa. The cyclone has been described as moving westward slowly. It’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 620 kilometers from the center.

“Kristine” is projected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by October 25 Friday, though it may re-enter depending on the behavior of the low pressure area last spotted east of Mindanao which is expected to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
