#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for October 24 2024

Significant parts of the country will continue to experience inclement weather because of severe tropical storm “Kristine” (international name: Trami).

As of 5:00 PM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that “Kristine” was last spotted at 175 kilometers (km.) east of Echague, Isabela (16.5°N, 123.3°E).

“Kristine” carries maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 115 KPH, and central pressure of 980 hPa. The cyclone is moving northwestward at 20 KPH. It’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 730 kilometers from the center.

“Kristine” is projected to make landfall over Isabela tonight or tomorrow early morning (October 24) and barnstorm northern Luzon throughout Thursday. PAGASA added that it will likely emerge over the coastal waters west of Ilocos region within the day. It will then exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) region on October 25, Friday.

As of Wednesday night, the state weather bureau has placed the entire Luzon and huge parts of Visayas under a storm warning signal.

In line with this, several local government units have announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in their respective constituencies for October 24, Thursday.Based on Department of Education order #37-2022 signed by Vice President and then-Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, classes up to senior high school are automatically suspended in areas where a storm warning signal has been raised.

Local government executives, meanwhile, have the discretion to suspend classes even if no storm warning signal or rainfall warning has been raised in their respective constituencies. Additionally, the local government executives in the areas listed below have also announced the suspension of classes.
