#MayPasok – October 31 2024 is NOT a holiday
The eve of All Saints’ Day, 31 October 2024, is a regular working day since it is not listed as a holiday according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation #368. October 31 this year falls on a Thursday.
Nevertheless, Malacañang has announced that classes in all levels and work in government offices nationwide will be suspended effective 12:00 PM of October 31. According to the announcement, this is to allow state workers the opportunity to travel to their respective provinces and promote domestic tourism in the process. Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private companies and offices as usual is left to the discretion of their respective managements.
Recently, various popular social media pages including that of major media organizations such as ABS-CBN and The Philippine Star have been urging their followers tongue-in-cheek to file a leave for October 31 and November 3. However, Filipino workers should be cautious in following this “advice.”
According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, employees will only be able to receive their holiday pay if they are present or is on leave of absence with pay on the work day immediately preceding the holiday. In other words, workers should make sure that they file the necessary paperwork to be on leave with pay for October 31 to avoid possible complications as regards securing holiday pay for November 1 and 2.
