#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for September 14 2024 due to monsoon rains
(UPDATED, 12:45 AM)
Significant parts of the country are expected to experience inclement this weekend, with tropical storm “Ferdie” (international name: Bebinca) enhancing the southwest monsoon.
As of 11:00 PM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that “Ferdie” was last spotted at 1,285 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon (24.8°N, 133.6°E).
It carries maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 105 KPH, and central pressure of 992 hPa. “Ferdie” is moving northwestward at 35 KPH. Enteng’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 680 kilometers from the center.
“Ferdie” is projected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning, and intensify into a typhoon upon reaching the East China Sea. The weather bureau has not raised storm warning signals anywhere in the country.
In line with this, face-to-face classes in several areas across the country might be suspended for September 14, Saturday.
It can be recalled that based on Department of Education order #37-2022 signed by Vice President and then-Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, classes up to senior high school are automatically suspended in areas placed under the orange and red rainfall warning.
Local government executives, meanwhile, have the discretion to suspend classes even if no storm warning signal or rainfall warning has been raised in their respective constituencies. Additionally, the local government executives in the areas listed below have also announced the suspension of classes.
