September 9, Monday, has been declared a special non-working holiday in certain cities and munipalities around the country due to local festivities. This means that most of those working and studying in these localities will enjoy a three-day weekend.
Bais City in Negros Oriental will be marking its 56th charter anniversary this September 9. It has been declared a special non-working holiday by virtue of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 629.
Marcos likewise declared September 9 a special non-working holiday in Digos City, Davao del Sur in celebration of its 24th cityhood anniversary. He made the announcement through Proclamation 651.
Lastly, Mayor Roseller Rodriguez of Capas, Tarlac ordered the suspension of classes, work, and business operations throughout the municipality for September 9 and 10 in observance of its annual town fiesta. A copy of Rodriguez’ executive order has been posted on the official Facebook page of Tarlac Forum.
Pay Rules For Special Non-working Holidays
According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays.
In line with this, workers who are not required or permitted to work on September 9 in these areas are not entitled to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.
The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days must receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
