#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for September 4 2024 due to #EntengPH

(UPDATED, 7:30 AM)

Severe tropical storm “Enteng” (international name: Yagi) will continue to cause torrential rains across Luzon as it strengthens the southwest monsoon or habagat. Hence, classes in several areas will remain suspended for September 4, Wednesday.

As of 11:00 PM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that “Enteng” was last spotted 210 kilometers (km.) west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.7°N, 118.6°E).

It carries maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 115 KPH, and central pressure of 985 hPa. “Enteng” is moving west northwestward at 10 KPH. Enteng’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 320 kilometers from the center.

“Enteng” is projected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday morning, and intensify into a typhoon by Thursday. The weather bureau has raised storm warning signals over the following areas:

Signal #1

Ilocos Norte
Ilocos Sur
Northern portion of La Union
Abra

According to Department of Education order #37-2022 signed by Vice President and then-Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, classes up to senior high school are automatically suspended in areas where a storm warning signal has been raised. Same goes for areas placed under the orange and red rainfall warning.

Local government executives, meanwhile, have the discretion to suspend classes even if no storm warning signal or rainfall warning has been raised in their respective constituencies. Additionally, the local government executives in the areas listed below have also announced the suspension of classes.
