NINOY AQUINO DAY – August 21 2024 declared holiday nationwide

The country will commemorate the 41st death anniversary of democracy icon and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. this 21 August 2024, Wednesday.

Ninoy Aquino Day is a special non-working holiday throughout the Philippines according to Republic Act (RA) 9256, which then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed in 2004.

It is also listed in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation #368 which enumerated the national and special non-working holidays for 2024. Click here to read The Filipino Scribe‘s report about it.

Pay Rules for 21 August 2024 – Ninoy Aquino Day

According to the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle will be in effect on Ninoy Aquino Day because it is a special non-working holiday.

In other words, workers who are not required or permitted to work on August 21, 2024 anywhere in the country are not entitled to any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that provides for that.

Meanwhile, the handbook mentions that employees who will work during special non-working days including employees in business process outsourcing companies are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
