#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for July 25 2024

In its 11:00 AM tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that typhoon “Carina” (international name: Gaemi) has further intensified while approaching Taiwan.

According to PAGASA, “Carina” was last spotted 345 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes (23.7°N, 123.0°E). It carries maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 205 KPH, and central pressure of 940 hPa. “Carina” is moving north northwestward at 15 KPH.

It’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 700 kilometers from the center, and is expected to remain in the Philippine area of responsibility until Thursday morning. The weather bureau has raised storm warning signals over the following areas:

*Northern portion of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga)
*Northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams)

“Carina” is also forecasted to continue enhancing the monsoon rains experienced in the western portions of the country until Friday. In line with this, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has announced the suspension of classes in all levels as well as work in government offices throughout Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Southern Tagalog provinces for Thursday, July 25.
The Filipino Scribe will be updating this article if and when local government executives outside the aforementioned regions also announce class and work suspensions in their respective areas.
