#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for July 24 2024

In its 5:00 PM tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that typhoon “Carina” (international name: Gaemi) has further intensified while meandering over the Philippine Sea.

According to PAGASA, “Carina” was last spotted 325 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes (21.1°N, 125.0°E). It carries maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 185 KPH, and central pressure of 960 hPa. “Carina” is moving northward at 20 KPH.

It’s strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 540 kilometers from the center, and is expected to remain in the Philippine area of responsibility until Wednesday. The weather bureau has raised storm warning signals over the following areas:

*Eastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Palanan, Maconacon, Dinapigue, Tumauini, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Cabagan, San Pablo, Santa Maria)
*Northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna, Pudtol, Flora, Santa Marcela, Kabugao)
*Northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Bangui, Adams, Dumalneg, Burgos, Vintar, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Carasi)

“Carina” is projected to continue enhancing the monsoon rains experienced in the western portions of the country until Thursday. Hence, certain local government executives have announced the suspension of classes in their respective areas for Wednesday, July 24.
