PAY RULES FOR LABOR DAY – MAY 1, 2024
According to pay rules set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), employees covered by the holiday pay rule are entitled to receive 100% of their regular daily wage rate even if they do not report for work on regular holidays like Labor Day. This daily wage rate is the sum of a worker’s daily basic wage and cost of living allowance.
Meanwhile, those who will report for work on Labor Day are entitled to get at least twice or 200% of their daily wage rate, which is more commonly referred to as “double pay.” Click here to download the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits.
However, it must be emphasized that workers can only get this holiday pay if they are present or at least have filed a leave of absence with pay on their work day immediately preceding Labor Day, which is 30 April 2024, Tuesday.
