Tanjay City, Negros Oriental will be celebrating its 23rd annual charter anniversary this April 1.

The day has been declared a special non-working holiday in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental as stipulated in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 500. The holiday will give those studying and working in the said city a rare five-day weekend because it comes after the four Holy Week holidays.

April 1 has likewise been declared a special non-working holiday in the municipality of Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro according to the President’s Proclamation 509.

Meanwhile, the following local government units and educational institutions have announced class suspension for April 1:

Pay Rules for the April 1, 2024 holiday in Tanjay, Negros Oriental and Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro

According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental’s charter anniversary and Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro’s founding anniversary.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental and in Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro on April 1 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
