Will March 12 2024 be declared a holiday?
The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) announced today that the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan 1445 Hijrah in the Philippines would start this March 12, Tuesday.
According to NCMF, this is because the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Darul Ifta and different Ulama groups, as well as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), and individuals have all reported no sighting of the new moon (Hilal).
The start day of the Ramadan season is not a special non-holiday since it is not listed as such in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 368 from 2023. It is also not listed as one of the recognized legal Muslim holidays in the country according to the late former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.’s Presidential Decree 1083.
Nevertheless, The Filipino Scribe would be updating this post in case additional information becomes available.
