#WalangPasok – April 5 2024 holiday in Pangasinan

The province of Pangasinan will be celebrating its 444th foundation anniversary this April 5, 2024.
The day is a special non-working holiday in the province according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 498. This means that the residents of Pangasinan can have a three-day weekend because the occassion falls on a Friday.
April 5, 1580 is officially recognized as the foundation date of Pangasinan. As stated in Provincial Ordinance #-143 series of 2010 signed by then Governor Amado Espino, a Research and Study Committee found out that Pangasinan was made an encomienda on April 5, 1572.
By 1580, it was “organized into a political unit under an alcalde mayor who at the time has authority as head of the province or provincial government with judicial function.”
Pay Rules For Pangasinan Day – April 5, 2024
The “no work, no pay” principle will be in effect during special non-working holidays as stipulated in the 2020 DOLE handbook on workers statutory monetary benefits.
This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Pangasinan on April 5, 2024 are not entitled to any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that provides for that.
The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
