#WalangPasok – March 22 2024 declared holiday in Cavite

UPDATED, 12 MARCH 2024

The Philippines will be marking the 155th birth anniversary of General Emilio Aguinaldo, officially recognized as the country’s first president, this March 22.

The day has been declared a special non-working holiday in Aguinaldo’s home province of Cavite by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. through Proclamation 492. This occasion will give the people of Cavite a three-day of weekend because March 22 falls on a Friday.

Despite the continued engagement of his descendants in politics, Aguinaldo remains a divisive figure in Philippine history. In recent years, several prominent historians have sought to have Andres Bonifacio recognized as the country’s first President instead of Aguinaldo. The high point of their efforts is the 2014 movie “Bonifacio: Unang Pangulo.

Meanwhile, his complicity in the bloody assassination of fellow revolutionary general Antonio Luna has re-entered the public consciousness because of the successful 2015 film “Heneral Luna.”

Pay Rules For Aguinaldo Day – March 22, 2024

According to the 2020 DOLE handbook on workers statutory monetary benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle applies during special non-working holidays.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in the province of Cavite on March 22, 2024 are not entitled to any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that provides for that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
