#WalangPasok – March 27 2024 declared a holiday in Las Piñas City
Las Piñas City will be celebrating its 117th foundation anniversary and 27th cityhood anniversary this March 27. The day is a special non-working holiday in the city as stipulated in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 477
This holiday will give most of those working and studying in Las Piñas City a five-day weekend because this year’s festivities coincides with Holy Wednesday this year.
Las Piñas became an independent municipality through Philippine Commission Act 1625 which was enacted in March 27, 1907. It was converted into a highly urbanized city in 1997 through Republic Act 8251. The Philippine Commission served as a unicameral legislative body during the first two decades of American colonization.
Pay Rules for the Las Piñas City foundation anniversary holiday – March 27, 2024
According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Las Piñas City’s foundation anniversary.
This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Las Piñas City on March 27 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.
The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
