#WalangPasok – February 26 2024 to be declared a holiday?

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s last year decided not to include the 38th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution from the list of holidays for 2024. In response to critics, the Palace said that it saw no need to declare the date as a holiday because it falls on a Sunday this year.

With less than three weeks to go before the event, the administration has not indicated if it will change course as regards declaring February 25 as a special non-working holiday. It is also possible that the anticipated holiday proclamation would cover February 26, Monday, instead in line with the Marcos’ government’s observance of the holiday economics policy similar to what it did when it declared February 9 as an additional holiday in connection with Chinese New Year.

Nevertheless, February 26 is a special non-working holiday this year in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay as mandated by Marcos’ Proclamation 450 in connection with its founding anniversary. The Filipino Scribe will be updating this post if and when new information becomes available.
