#WalangPasok – November 2 2023 declared holiday for All Souls Day

The Philippines will be commemorating All Souls’ Day this 2 November 2023, Thursday. It has been declared a special non-working holiday nationwide as mandated by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 42 signed last year.

Since this day immediately follows the All Saints’ Day (known locally as “Araw ng mga Patay” or “Undas”), Filipinos may still take advantage of this day to visit their departed loved ones in cemeteries.

Pay Rules For Undas – November 2, 2023

According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s observance of All Souls Day.

In line with this, workers who are not required or permitted to work on November 2 anywhere in the Philippines are not entitled to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days must receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
