#WalangPasok – November 1 2023 declared holiday for All Saints’ Day

The Philippines will be observing the annual All Saints’ Day on 1 November 2023, Wednesday. It has been declared as a special non-working holiday nationwide as stipulated in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 42 signed last year.

Referred to locally as “Araw ng mga Patay” and “Undas,” Filipinos typically flock to cemeteries to visit their departed loved ones during this day. It is expected that all cemeteries will implement no restrictions this coming “Undas” season in line with the lifting of the state of public health emergency regarding COVID-19 last July.

Pay Rules For Undas – November 1, 2023

According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s observance of Undas.

In line with this, workers who are not required or permitted to work on November 1 anywhere in the Philippines are not entitled to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days must receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
