MARCOS DAY: September 11 2023 declared holiday in Ilocos Norte

The 106th birth anniversary of the late former President and dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. will be commemorated this September 11, 2023.

It will be a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte, Marcos’ home province, according to Proclamation 327 which was signed by his only son and namesake, President President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. The said holiday will give the people of Ilocos Norte a three-day weekend because it falls on a Monday.

Marcos is the tenth and longest-serving President of the Philippines, having served from 1965 until 1986, when he was ousted through EDSA People Power I.

While credited for an active foreign policy and massive infrastructure projects, Marcos’ tenure as President has been marred with economic mismanagement, widespread plunder, thousands of documented extrajudicial killings and human rights violations.

Pay Rules For Marcos Day 2023 holiday – September 11, 2023

The 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits mandates that the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Marcos Day in Ilocos Norte.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Ilocos Norte on September 11, 2023 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
