#WalangPasok – Will June 30 2022 be declared a holiday?

As mandated by the 1987 Constitution, President-elect Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. as well as Vice President-elect Sara Duterte will take their respective oath of office this coming June 30, Thursday.

The Inauguration Day may be declared a special non-working holiday by outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte. This post will be updated if and when Duterte issues such a declaration.

Twelve years ago, then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Proclamation 2085 which designated June 30, 2010 as a special non-working holiday. That was the inauguration day for her successor then-Senator Benigno Aquino III.

“It is fitting and proper that all citizens of our country be given full opportunity to witness and welcome this historic event in the life of the nation,” Arroyo noted in her proclamation.

However, six years ago, the Duterte camp did not ask the Aquino administration to declare June 30, 2016 as a special non-working holiday. According to a report at that time from Rappler, the request to have the inauguration day declared as a special non-working day should come from the camp of the incoming administration.
