#WalangPasok: DepED CALABARZON suspends classes across the region from January 17-29 2022
There will be no classes in all public elementary and high schools across Region IV-A – better known as CALABARZON – starting January 17 to 29, 2022. This is according to a regional memorandum signed by Francis Cesar Bringas, the regional director for Department of Education (DepEd)-CALABARZON January 13.
Bringas’ announcement of a two-week class suspension will cover the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. A copy of the said regional memorandum has been uploaded in DepEd Calabarzon’s official website, and is being attached in this post by The Filipino Scribe.
“This suspension includes all other school activities, whether physical or virtual (online), that involve school-based personnel, learners, and parents,” Bringas said, reiterating that the schedule of midyear break on January 31 – February 5, 2022, shall remain.
Bringas likewise clarified toward the end of the memorandum that his announced class suspension from January 17 to 29, 2022 does not cover private schools. “Private schools, in consultation with their respective parents’ associations, may exercise their own discretion relative to the suspension of classes and K to 12
learning activities when COVID-19 risks in their respective areas are high,” he wrote.
It can be recalled that DepEd Central issued a memorandum signed by Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio stipulating that its regional offices and school division offices has the power to declare an academic break in their respective areas. This is in response from the clamor from student and teachers’ groups to implement an academic break given the continued rise in COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks.
