CHRISTMAS DAY: Pay rules for December 25 2021 regular holiday
The Philippines will be joining the rest of the Christian world in celebrating Christmas Day this December 25, Saturday.
Christmas Day is a national holiday in the country as stipulated in President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 986, which he signed August of last year. However, unlike in previous years, Christmas Eve or December 24 has been simply designated as a “special working day.”
According to the 2020 DOLE handbook on workers statutory monetary benefits, employees are entitled to receive 100% of their regular wage rate even if
they did not report for work on the said day, provided that they are present or is on leave of absence with pay on the work day immediately preceding the holiday.
This means that those who will not report for work on November 29 will not be paid for the November 30 holiday unless they are on official leave. Meanwhile, those who will be working on November 30 will get twice or 200% of their regular daily wage – also known as “double pay.”
