#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for October 12 2021 due to tropical storm ‘Maring’

In its weather bulletin released 8:00 PM of October 11, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that tropical storm “Maring” was last spotted over the coastal waters of Aparri, Cagayan (18.8°N, 122.0°E).
PAGASA likewise announced that public storm warning signals number 1 and 2 is in effect over parts of northern and central Luzon. With that, the rules for automatic class suspensions will be in effect in accordance with Department of Education (DepEd) Order #14 series of 2021 as reported by The Filipino Scribe last July. It is worth pointing out that as per DepEd, the guidelines will apply regardless of the learning delivery modality.
Local government units (LGUs) can also suspend classes in their respective areas as they deem appropriate, although they may wait for the 5:00 AM or 8:00 AM weather advisory before making their announcement.
It must be reiterated that LGUs must still suspend classes as soon as possible especially since inclement weather makes Internet connectivity unstable and that it also causes power interruptions. The Filipino Scribe will be updating this post when new information becomes available.
